MECOSTA COUNTY

Hot Meals: For persons age 60 and older, suggested donation is $4. For persons younger than age 60, cost is $7.

  • Mecosta Meal Site: 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, at the Activity Center, 12954 80th Ave., Mecosta;
  • Barryton Meal Site: 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays at the Barryton Senior Building, 71 Northern Ave., Barryton. Call 231-972-2884 for reservations.

Meals on Wheels: Monday-Friday, hot midday meals delivered to the door of homebound senior citizens in Mecosta County. Suggested donation: $3 for seniors, $5 for non-seniors. 

Take and reheat meals: Frozen meals available Monday-Friday. To preorder, call 231-972-2884. 

  • Reminder: Mecosta County Activities Center no longer offers to-go meals, but it still offers “Ready-Made Meals” for a fee of $6. Talk with your greeter or call 231-972-2884 for more information.

Annual Prime Rib Dinner/Prime Shopping Fundraising Event: 5:30 p.m. July 29. Features social hour and 50/50 tickets at 5:30, choice of prime rib with baked potato or a honey butter crusted flounder fillet at 6 p.m. and prime shopping from 7-8 p.m. You must make reservations and pay at the office reception area or online at www.mecostacounty.org/mccoa. Cost: $35 per person. All proceeds go to Meals on Wheels Mecosta County.

Annual Yard Sale: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 1-15. No Sunday sales. If you have items to donate, please call Jess 231-972-2884.

  • Coffee and Donuts: 9:30-11:30 a.m. Friday, July 24. An informal gathering to socialize. Mecosta County COA staff will be on hand to answer questions.

BARRYTON SENIOR CENTER: 71 Northern Ave., Barryton. 

Swiss Steak Dinner: 4-6:30 p.m. the last Friday of every month from April-October. Includes dessert. Open to the public; everyone is welcome. Cost: $12. Proceeds support the senior center.

Inclement Weather Policy: When a winter storm closes Chippewa Hills, Big Rapids or Morley-Stanwood school districts, all activities will be canceled and all meals, including Meals on Wheels, will not be served/delivered that day.

  • Euchre and Pizza Party: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. July 31 and Aug. 14 at Hersey Senior Center, 215 S. Division St., Hersey. Cost: Euchre is free. Pizza party is $10. Register by Wednesday before the event by calling the COA at 231-734-5559.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Retired and Senior Volunteer Program: Volunteers ages 55 and older are needed to use their life skills to help neighbors in need. RSVP places seniors in nonprofit agencies in Mecosta, Osceola and Lake counties. Call 231-796-4848 for more information.

Mecosta County COA: The Mecosta County COA is looking for volunteers to fill a variety of roles. For more information, call the Activity Center at 231-972-2884 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

  • Collecting recycling at the Activity Center and taking it to a recycling center;
  • Helping deliver Meals on Wheels;
  • Helping the kitchen crew at the Activity Center.
