Feist Collecting Baseball Cards the Old Way by Adventure Baseball In the 1970s, there were real-live Sandlot kids in the Kaywin neighborhood of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. We rode our bikes like mad, collected soda bottles for profit, sweated all day in the sun until dinner time, and taped our broken baseball bats with electrical tape. We lost baseballs over neighbors’ fences, perfected Wiffle Ball, and we all played Little League. In senior league, Roger picked Jeffrey off second. Through the years Mike’s dad coached the Dodgers. David played side-by-side with future Yank 2B Pat Kelly. Matt W. could have invented Fantasy Ball. Our Fantasy Leagues back then? Our baseball cards. The best players, just like in today’s Fantasy Clubs, were in highest demand. There is a parking lot now where we used to play Sandlot Ball up at the church grounds. That parking lot isn’t stealing memories, just hiding them for now. Oh, and we collected baseball cards. The old way. Wondering if Roger G., Jeffrey F., Matt W., Mike R., David F., Jeff L., Ricky M., Andy N., Michael A., or the other kids from other streets still have their shoe boxes -with Topps Hank Aaron, Willie McCovey, Tom Seaver, Lou Brock, Phil Niekro, Jim Palmer, Joe Morgan, Tony Perez, Willie Stargell, Reggie Jackson, Rod Carew, Nolan Ryan, Brooks Robinson, Mike Schmidt, and Steve Carlton still hiding in there. All 15 of those Stars are Hall of Famers now. Heck yeah, we collected baseball cards -the Old Way.
